1001fontaines is an NGO that designs and deploys innovative solutions to provide access to safe drinking water worldwide.

For over 20 years, they have been meeting the needs of vulnerable communities through resilient water purification infrastructure and affordable, practical services, relying on the delivery of reusable 20 liter water containers.

Their approach combines impact and sustainability. They strengthen local capacities and ensure that our local partners reach financial viability. They encourage long term behavior change, demonstrated today by the adoption of our solutions by more than one million people across four countries where they operate.

Their organization was born in Cambodia from the meeting of Chay Lo, a young Cambodian engineer, François Jaquenoud, and Virginie Legrand. In 2004, they developed a prototype of micro plants for water purification and production to bring safe drinking water to the most remote villages in the country. Today, the organization is also present in three other countries: Madagascar, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

Yves Bernaert:

“As President of 1001fontaines, I am deeply grateful for the support that The Cagni Foundation C4 provides to our actions to expand access to safe drinking water. Beyond this support, The Cagni Foundation C4 helps us bring together a circle of committed leaders around our ambition. I would like to thank Pascal Cagni and his family in particular for their engagement and for amplifying our strategic vision.

My hope is that this collective momentum will continue to grow and enable us to reach new milestones through strategic partnerships and the commitment of new major donors.”

Testimonials

“I have been drinking O we water since 2016, when the first Water Kiosk was installed in my village. For my family, the reusable container is a simple and reliable solution that we can drink directly. Before, we drank well water that we boiled, but sometimes we would forget. Today, I trust O we water. It is treated through a water purification system and regularly tested. My child also benefited from it for free at primary school thanks to the Water in School program, and I hope our family will stay healthy thanks to this high quality water.”

“I joined Ranontsika in 2021 to ensure water quality at every stage, from extraction to distribution. Since taking responsibility for operations in 2023, we have increased our production capacity and have been able to meet rapidly growing demand. In 2024, sales increased by 47 percent, the team expanded, and more schools in the Water in School program were supplied. These results confirm the relevance of our model in providing high quality drinking water to the people of Tamatave.”
